Biography

Ting Lin is a singer, songwriter, pianist, and performer in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area.

Her musical journey started with studying Classical piano at age five in Southern China. Aside from Classical music, she was exposed to Cantonese Opera, Cantonese Pop, Mandarin Pop, and American Pop music all at the same time in a music-loving household. She was told that she “sang before she could read” as she dominated the microphone at every family karaoke session. Her performative nature came from the numerous piano recitals, ballet performances, and Kindergarten dance team events.

Her Classical piano career continued briefly when she arrived in America at age twelve. Then at age fourteen, she decided to take a break from the instrument and instead take up vocal training. After four years of Operatic and Jazz vocal training during high school, she decided to switch gears and major in Fashion Design in college. This is where she deepened her understanding and love for Fashion. And ultimately, led her to New York after graduation.

While in the Fashion Capital of the world, Ting explored the fashion industry while reignited her music passion. She partnered with a guitarist to create their acoustic covers in English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Cantonese. They performed everywhere from Open Mic venues, to Baruch College, to Times Square. She also kept up with her vocal training and performed at recitals in the National Opera Center in New York. This is also where she started to explore songwriting.

After a few years, she was ready for the next move and Washington, D.C. called for her. This is where she took her music career to the next level. She has released three original songs: “Do You?”, “Te Quiero”, and “TAKERS”, each with their own music video. “Do You?” is a Pop ballad about living in the present moment and connecting with the world around us. “Te Quiero” is a Latin style love song about a long distance relationship. “TAKERS” is a Hip Hop/Rap/RnB track about rising above circumstances and fighting back while highlighting the current climate crisis. The music videos further illustrate Ting’s vision for the songs, and allow her to bring her fashion styling and creative directing talents to the screen.

Currently, she is working on new releases, music videos, collaborations, live performances, and more. She is slowly making a name for herself in the local DMV music scene. Through her music, she wants to highlight the importance of Creativity, Culture, and Community. She wants to connect with the audience by talking about relatable and complex issues in life. She wants to bring attention to causes that she care about, such as Diversity, Equality, Climate Change, and to inspire real action. She wants to introduce new sound to the audience by combining different music influences and elements from her musical journey. She wants to continue to elevate her artistry and grow as a person.
